What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is the ability of being able to recognize, manage, understand and influence your emotions or possibly even others. It involves 3 key steps being “the practice of mindfulness”, “self-knowledge and self-mastery” and finally “creating useful mental habits”. These 3 key steps contribute to many positives all revolving around one's overall well-being. Here they are broken down into further extent:

The Practice of Mindfullness

Mindfulness practice is not only helpful in the world of coding but also all aspects of life. Regular practices may improve your attention span as well as enhancing awareness, reducing stress and improving overall mental and emotional well-being. One may use the practice of mindfulness by using techniques like mindful breathing or meditation to center your attention to the present.

Self-Knowledge and Self-Mastery

Self-knowledge is the deep understanding one must have of their own identity, behaviours, emotions, strengths and weaknesses. It is the ability of having the awareness of understanding how your thoughts and feelings will influence your actions and relationships. Self-mastery is then the ability to use this knowledge gained to control your thoughts and behaviors with your future goals and values.

Creating Useful Mental Habits

Creative useful mental habits are a must in everyday life and a lot of people may not realise the positive effects that come with it. Identifying your negative habits and replacing them with your positive, will increase your positive thinking, emotional resilience and overall well-being.



How is EQ different from IQ

EQ (Emotional Intelligence) is the ability of being able to manage, recognize, understand and influence the emotions in yourself or others. While IQ (Intelligence Quotient) is a measure of abilities, such as logical reasoning and problem-solving. EQ and IQ come in together to navigate both intellectual and emotional challenges effectively.



Why is EQ important?

EQ is important for a number of different reasons, it comes with the opportunity of being able to recognize, understand, manage and influence your emotions. Changes that one may usually notice is the ability to improve personal relationships, enhancing communication and most importantly supports mental health. There's no reason to not include EQ into your everyday life, as it's a cornerstone for personal growth, emotional health and professional achievement.
